Design Considerations

  • Keep it clean and organized. Make good use of color, typography, and whitespace. Don't try to cram a ton of elements, and content into a small space. Let it breathe and make it easy for users to navigate and digest the content.
  • Be consistent. Make sure all page elements, typography, modules, and widget layouts look like they belong together. Think about the visual style of each element and how it works with others on the page.
  • Be responsive. The SchoolNow platform, its templates, modules, widgets, and page layouts are responsive. If introducing custom elements into your template, be sure to design those elements so they flow and adapt to the various device sizes.
  • Bigger isn't always better. Our themes are responsive so it's important to keep load time in mind. If using full-screen images in your slider helps to communicate a message, great, but make sure that is not the norm on every page of the site as it will most likely affect site performance.

Before jumping into Photoshop we recommend reviewing the Modules & Widgets Document The Modules & Widgets Document covers each module and widget in detail. This includes what default layouts, tags, and settings are available for each. If a default layout will not work with your design, understanding what (data) tags and settings are available will help you understand the options you have to create a custom layout.
