How do I?

How can I duplicate dated moduled information such as a news article to be used in another department with a different date?

While you can open two windows, one for the new article and one showing the old article, migrating the information from one to the other to duplicate the article's information,  there is an easier way to do this by using two functions built into SchoolNow, Clone Content and Move, which can be found by clicking on the three vertical dots to the right of all module data.

Below you will find instructions on how to clone and then move a news article which can be used for other module data types, please remember that pages will need to be linked to in the new department's navigation.

  1. Go to the proper list view in the department that contains the original news article you want to duplicate and click on the three vertical dots (Options) to the right of the title and select Clone Content. This will create a duplicate of the article in which you can make any changes to like the timestamp. Copy the title of the article and then Publish.
  2. There are two ways of moving the new article, individually or in groups. Both are reviewed below;
    • To move just the new article you will need to locate the article. You can do this quickly by pasting in the title that you copied into the Filter by title... located on the top right side of the list. This will bring up both the original article and the duplicate. Click on the three vertical dots (Options) to the right of the title of the duplicate that you created, if you changed the timestamp it will show the new date in the Posted date under the title of the article and select Move. Select the container (department) that you would like to move the duplicate to. Once selected, the news article and you will be taken to the list view of the news module of the department that the article was moved to.

      Tip: If you need to duplicate and edit another article copy the URL of the list view where the originals are stored, pasting it into notepad so you can easily copy and paste it into the browser window. That way you do not have to keep navigating through the website's architecture.

    • If you prefer to create all of the duplicates and then move them all at once you can do so in the list view of the module. By clicking on the box to the left of the title of each of the articles you would like to move and then the move icon (to the right of the trash icon) that will appear at the top of the list view you can select the container (department) you would like to move them to.
