Why do we use a CNAME record instead of IP address in your DNS?

We ask you to set your website’s www record as a CNAME record, in order to switch and route physical IP addresses on our side as necessary; to balance load; thwart DNS attacks, and generally guard the traffic coming into your website. If you have a hard-coded IP address in your DNS, and we have to route mischievous traffic, we can’t do that without reaching out to you and asking you to change the IP address every time this happens.
